The duck breast is so good. Totally like the ratio of fat with meat. Each bite tastes flavorful. The pork chop is also perfect crispy and tender. Be aware if you don’t like raw cooked food, could still see some blood in pork chop. Scallops are good, tastes like a thai fusion to me, might be that coconut flavor 😆 Lobster bisque is a little salty, but the seafood flavor is still strong. Overall perfect experience for me. The server also gives out full detail of the menu if there’s any questions.
A while back, I had such an amazing dining experience here. Absolutely loved the food and the ambience. Every single dish had rich (but not too overwhelming) flavor. The service was good as well. We're planning to go back in December and I'm certain that I'll love it even more.
The appetizers are good while a little salty. However, their meet plates are disappointing. The steak is too hard, and not juicy. The flavor is odd and doesn’t mix into the beef. And the pork and duck have strange flavor as the meat might not be fresh or cleaned enough. I really think it should be improved as it’s a ‘fancy’ restaurant. It’s below the average level. The sides and vegetables in those plates are way better than the meat. The dessert is ok.
I visited 1789 for Thanksgiving 2024 holiday. This was my 2nd visit, as the 1st visit in the summer was amazing and remarkable food. I was extremely disappointed for a $100+ Thanksgiving tasting menu, the main course of Turkey and the sides was not up to par with the upscale quality I received the first time. I mean it was downhill diner food quality at best (see photo of the plate that was served) The turkey was thick and moist but not a spec of any seasonings, the stuffing was overwhelming season with Thyme, for “ham” it was basically shredded roast, an overall disappointment to order the “special turkey feast” on Thanksgiving when I should’ve just stuck with an item normally on their menus such as the Lamb or Short Rib. I was asked how the food was, and I expressed my opinion that the main turkey course was not very good, and I just received a “oh, I’m sorry” with no further involvement from the server or management, as I would’ve expected from a high-end establishment who prides themselves on their food quality. For such a historic DC food staple, I’m sad to have experienced this with my family on such a treasured holiday, and will think twice about coming back when looking for high-end establishments.
Fancy restaurant in Georgetown. The Rack of Lamb and foie gras are incredible. Even the pre-meal bread is awesome. This is definitely a place you would like to go for celebrations. The staff is super friendly, considerate and professional. We had a great experience there.
